Batam, highlighted by the government for developing Indonesia’s shipbuilding industry further!
The National Resilience Council (Wantannas) is giving special attention to the shipbuilding industry in Batam. During their visit to the Batam Indonesia Free Zone Authority (BP Batam) on Friday, September 20, 2024, a delegation led by Defense and Security Expert Staff, Vice Admiral TNI Arsyad Abdullah, gathered the necessary information about shipyards, which will later be reported to President-Elect Prabowo Subianto.
“This working visit is themed around optimizing the shipyard and offshore construction industry to increase global competitiveness and national income,” said Arsyad after the visit.
Arsyad explained that they wanted to observe conditions and hold discussions with relevant stakeholders, such as shipyard entrepreneurs and BP Batam, to obtain accurate data for drafting recommendations to the president.
“There are many supporting industries for shipyards and offshore construction in Batam. Based on the information and data collected on-site, we will make constructive recommendations so that the resulting policies will contribute to Indonesia's positive growth,” he added.
He revealed that Prabowo Subianto has outlined four key tasks for Wantannas regarding the shipyard and offshore construction industries in Batam, namely: the adoption of advanced technology, regulations and bureaucracy, skilled labor, and the supply chain for raw materials.
BP Batam Chief, Muhammad Rudi, expressed his hopes that future government policies would support the shipyard industry and other industries as well.
“From today's discussions, we hope Wantannas, BP Batam, and business actors can continue collaborating and providing feedback to issue supportive, sustainable policies, facilitating all incoming investments and construction processes toward Batam as a new city," concluded Rudi, the top official in Batam.
